Holy cow, where did January go?! I can't believe I ever had time to work outside our home! LOL! It is amazing how we can always find MORE that needs to be done (or that we want to do).
Last month my goals were to declutter the house, take a month off of Instagram and try to not to buy anything above our usual groceries and personal care. I didn't do too badly. The month off of Instagram was definitely a good detox, but I didn't get as much decluttering done as I had hoped.
This month, on my journey to simplicity, is still mostly all about the home. I'm going to continue to declutter. Since I have yet to get The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up from the library, I'm going to probably end up buying it. I think it might be a good book to keep around for reference anyway. I can't wait to dive in. I am so ready to do a ruthless declutter of our house.
I've also been reading Myquillen Smith's book The Nesting Place: It Doesn't Have to be Perfect to be Beautiful. There is definitely wisdom in her words. While, so far, many of her suggestions are things that we all already know, there is freedom in her telling us that we have permission to not have perfect homes. She also has some very creative ideas for those of us on tiny budgets! I've got a few projects that I want to get completed this month beyond the decluttering and organizing like finally getting my curtains back up!
"He is happiest, be he king or peasant, who finds peace in his home."
-Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
And even though this month is mostly going to be about working on creating that simple home I'm craving, I'm going to start working on another goal for simple this year...our eating. Well, really I'm going to planning out the garden for spring and summer. I need to get my list of what we're going to try to grow finalized and seeds bought. Then its a matter of determining when to plant what. I'll try to create a post on my process later in the month. To ensure we have more veggies to put up for the winter, we are going to make the garden bigger and we're going to try some succession planting this year as well so we don't have everything coming on at once. It is easy to get overwhelmed when everything needs harvested and canned at the same time.
I'm already enjoying my year of simple, and I'm excited for what lies ahead. Life is much more joyful when filled with purpose and intention, I think. How about you? How are your goals this year coming along? I'd love to know!
